Castlegar Sunfest
Castlegar Sunfest is a beloved annual festival that takes place in early June in the heart of Castlegar, British Columbia. Known as the city’s signature summer kickoff event, Sunfest spans several days and offers something for everyone—families, children, seniors, and visitors alike. The weekend typically begins with the Miss Castlegar Pageant at Stanley Humphries on Friday evening. Saturday brings the grand parade through downtown Castlegar, featuring colourful floats, community groups, classic cars, and live performers. The festivities continue across the city with a variety of events such as Festival in the Park with live music concerts, performances, food and artisan vendors. Food trucks and vendors offer everything from local favorites to international cuisine, while community organizations run booths to raise funds and awareness for local causes.
Local sports tournaments, including slo-pitch, tennis and pickleball, add to the excitement, drawing teams from across the region. Hosted in partnership with the Castlegar & District Recreation Department and supported by volunteers, sponsors, and local businesses, Sunfest not only provides entertainment but also strengthens community bonds. For many, it’s a time to reunite with neighbors, celebrate local talent, and enjoy the natural beauty of the West Kootenays under the summer sun.
